Artist Statement Born Oct. 14, 1962 - I've painted or drawn in various styles for most of my life. Studied drafting, architecture, cooking etc.
I still work in other styles and find that I can often succesfully integrate bits into my current works.
Even though I now paint full-time, I find a lot of fun in this style and don't intend to leave it any time soon. For those who need to hear the technical lingo - It is most solidly within the bounds of 'Deconstructionism' in the 'Impressionist' mode. Hints of folk art, pop art etc. are used to connect with the audience as much as for mood and emotional content. The actual techniques employed are drawn from traditional brush techniques, as well as sign painters techniques, and influenced by pin striping, graphic arts and comic books.
Most often I am inspired by Southern and Pop Culture themes and I try to choose my subject matter, or slant my narrative by considering 1) The French Quarter, 2) New Orleans, 3) Louisiana and then Southern Culture and Pop Culture as a whole.
I also find that it can be a successful vehicle for humor, something that is often missing in more "traditional" styles and something that we could all use a little more of.
Remember kids, If it ain't fun, do something else!
Much Love to all friends and fans, come by and see me soon!
