Artist Statement Peter and his wife, Susan, live in Overland Park, Kansas - the Heart of America. As a young child, Pete would get hold of a camera and take pictures. Often times his parents would ask him why he took one picture or another and he would say "I want you to see what I saw." Then he would point out the spider in a web in the corner or a flower in the middle of a field of weeds. It was obvious he saw much more than what most people saw. In high school and college he took a few classes to learn more about cameras, lenses, exposures and such but the art of photography was within him. As he traveled with his family he realized they didn't always see the glorious sights that he saw. His recall of a journey sometimes made them wonder if they had indeed been on the same trip. But as it happens to many of us, work and responsibility crept into his world and he stopped carrying the camera. Thankfully, however, he never stopped seeing the simple art in the world.
His dreams of hiking the Rocky Mountains or the Black Hills of South Dakota vanished when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in his early 30s. Knowing how the disease can eventually affect his ability to walk, use his hands and arms or even see, he decided to pick up the camera again while he still could. It is interesting how most people think pigeons are pests and yet Pete catches one in flight and it's awesome. The colors and textures are remarkable in his art. After seeing the world through his eyes perhaps you will help a little more to protect our planet.
We hope you enjoy his gallery. Please feel free to make comments and/or order your favorite shot. It will be ever growing so come back often.
