Description Water garden with twin 'blue lotus' waterlilies, nymphaea caerulea, and blue dragonfly. These prized beautiful flowers, aka Egyptian Blue Water Lilies, are native to North and Central Africa. With sacred meaning in ancient Egyptian mythology, they are used today in aromatherapy and popular medicine. Distantly related to the Indian Sacred Lotus, nelumbo nucifera, both contain mildly psychoactive sedating alkaloids.
