(On) The Road Revisited
Say goodbye to Cassidy, Jack, I'm ready, to hit the road. Having found my long-buried Sancho Panza costume, I will be your clown, your interpreter, your link to the unenlightened.
And you, not so much a road warrior as its philosopher, will be understood by those who cannot perceive your vision unless coated in the vernacular.
You will weave a web of jazz and booze, sex and freedom, while sweating in the mojado fields of the Golden State, while dreaming of the broken cobblestones of Gotham.
And I, slyly slipping from your sideshow into the gray and grimy quarters of the uninitiated, will unravel your roughsilk words and spin them into a warm familiar blanket and lay it over shivering hearts.
And you will be hailed as a prophet, not only in the precious prose of journals but also by the tethered great unwashed.
And men will shed grey flannel and, clumsy, vagabond through narrow suburban lanes; women will lose their crinolines and, moistening unpainted lips, open their legs to adventure.
And even when they fail there will be no regrets, only embellished memories of when they set their fantasies free. ~ copyright 2015 RC deWinter
