Description Acrylic on canvas. 'People on the fringe are more open. You are fringed.' This phrase came to me during a prayer along with this image. The 'fringe' is made up of emerging, budding tulips growing out of the figure. I see the large tulips in the background as sun and moon, and the hair as a sort of halo or additional sun for the fringe to grow. The abdomen area has the look of a tulip bulb.
Sondra Sula, Fort Bragg, CA Member Since June 2008 Artist Statement Painting is my first love - I've been influenced by German Expressionism and Fauvism. Emotion through the use of color is very important to me. I adore extreme, brilliant color and have a preference for figurative work. I've been painting for many years, have been in over 40 shows, and have had previous representation with galleries in Chicago and Santa Fe. I am now with a gallery in Elk, California.
I work in several forms of art including photography, oil pastel and "Little Souls" which are found-object mosaic-like pieces, that serve as small framed shrines. Creativity is a gift to be enjoyed by those who create and those who observe - ENJOY!
Make sure to visit all of my galleries. I'll be adding new work on a regular basis. Thank you for visiting!
