Description This piece of driftwood showed the spirit presence of the Heron worn into the natural wood. The Heron being my totem animal through the following of the Lakota ways, this piece held special meaning to me...better than a clove of garlic when meandering through the spirit filled forest of driftwood forms! This is one of many Redwood Driftwood pieces, remnants of the 1860-1930 logging era, shaped by natural forces. In early years the trees were uprooted as they were logged from millennia old virgin forests. When it was realized that new trees sprouted from left in the ground roots, the practice was discontinued.Once plentiful along the beaches and rivers of Northern California, most of these water and insect resistant roots have been milled into beautifully colored lumber and furniture, and the beaches have been closed to further removal. This is one of a 35 year old collection of these spirited tree roots found along Clove Rd, Minnewaska, New York, USA
