Artist Statement I am an artist and photographer outside of Boston. You can find my fan page on Facebook, Imagery by Tami Elaine, for regular updates.

I have been a photographer for as long as I can remember. I have learned a great deal about myself, my relationship with God and the world around me throughout this process. I chose double exposures and multiple prints early in my career because of its layered process. Each layer represents a part of me. One layer may explore my relationship with the outside world and the other a self-portrait. My photography exposed me and helped me open up. I would simply feel something and need to get it out of my system. Then each image grew into a world of emotions.

I explored the world of painting upon graduating from college. I find that I best express myself through abstract paintings. I enjoy how emotional a piece can be without a subject being realistic. I love that each image changes its meaning from viewer to viewer. I currently paint in acrylic, but am also exploring more mixed media projects. I use mostly my hands, spackles and sponges to paint, no brushes. I truly enjoy the tactile experience of creating with my hands. I feel more connected to what I am creating.

My latest, "Synergy" project combines everything I love. It began when I digitized my original paintings and started doing some new photo shoots. As I was editing my images I realized how beautiful they would be combined. I have always worked with surrealistic imagery, but had never combined both mediums. These pieces were created by layering my digitized paintings with my new photography utilizing various techniques in Photoshop.

I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography with a minor in Art and an Associates Degree in Graphic Design in 2001 from Virginia Intermont College. I have been published nationally for my photography and writing. In 2010 one of my images was included in "Continuing The Light", a book created as a dedication for John Scarlata. Earlier publications included: Listen Magazine in 2006 for "Under The Makeup", Photo Techniques in 2002 for "Filtered Vision",
Photo Techniques in 2000 for "Creative Double Exposures" and in Photographer's Forum Best of Photography Annual 2000. I am currently working on new articles and a book project.

My work has evolved from technique to subject matter as I have evolved emotionally. I promise my audience that I will continue to challenge myself creatively as an artist. I want your viewing experience to be an emotional journey of self. As I grow, I want each of you to share in my journey.
