DescriptionChuck Berry said it, a surprising twilight sky proved it. This is a painting of the sunset (or twilight) of Monday, August 22nd, 2011, as seen from Stony Point in Albemarle County, Virginia, facing the Blue Ridge mountains near Charlottesville, on Sunday, August 21st, 2011, and painted that evening. The original is oil on heavy watercolor paper, 13 x 19 inches. After sunset the light finally broke through.
William Van Doren, Albemarle County, Virginia Member Since April 2009 Artist Statement Artist at The Very Rich Hours – http://www.veryrichhours.com/. In addition to other work, I’ve painted every sunset for over seven years – since January 1, 2006 (and many before that, starting in 1995). Most are painted from the same place, facing the Blue Ridge, in Virginia, north of Charlottesville. Otherwise I paint the sunset view from wherever I happen to be. Even if painted later from a sketch, these paintings are done “alla prima” in around the same time it takes to watch the sun go down. A new sunset painting is posted each night at theveryrichhours.com and Facebook (/theveryrichhours).
