Hymn To A Lion
Ah Leo, lordly beast cast to the sky, Held captive in a constellation zoo, Small wonder you the silence loud defy, Unleash the only power left to you And shatter midnight's peace with fearsome roar. No longer free to roam anointed king, Caught fast 'twixt crab and virgins cobalt shore, What does there now remain for you to sing? To conquer? No more harem sworn to you, to bring you bloodied kill so fiercely won. Wrapped only in a cloak of icy blue You pace the night abandoned by the sun, But shower us with stardust glorious To prove yourself once more victorious. 2014 RC deWinter
The final lines refer to the Leonids, a meteor shower that occurs annually in November. It is associated with the comet Tempel-Tuttle, which appears to radiate from the constellation Leo.
