Description Despite its appearance, the Portland Observatory is not a lighthouse. It was built in 1807 on a hill near the water where flags would signal to dock workers which merchant ships were approaching.
Dominic White, Portland, Maine Member Since January 2008 Artist Statement I have always had an intense, almost obsessive love of detail. I love showing the flaws, shadings, slight changes in shape and coloring that make individual objects unique, even when the appear identical at first glance.
For the past few years I have been exploring this with drawing mediums and although it is time consuming and not as marketable and profitable as painting, it is a labor of love and one that enriches me artistically and creatively.
My inspiration has consistently come from the rich history and natural beauty of my native New England. Especially coastal Massachusetts where I grew up, and Portland, Maine where I now live.
I hope you enjoy my artwork. Thank you for visiting my imagekind gallery. For more information about my work and other projects, please visit NewEnglandDrawings.com.
