Description On March 26, 2004, I set out on what I called 'the Melrose Project', to explore Los Angeles' Melrose Avenue from one end to the other, block by block, store by store, front and back. This is the first of three images for sale here I captured that day. This remarkable hand-painted advertisement stood out, so I shot it. Now, what make the picture for me are the windows, the parking meter, and the pigeons in the street. I've actually had someone say the whole thing looked like a painting to him, which I will attribute to my photographing perpendicular to the painting.
Robert Peate, Oregon City Member Since August 2007 Artist Statement
My name is Robert Peate, and I have been taking photographs for business and pleasure since 1987. I specialize in capturing the characters of human beings, going deeper, creating a connection between viewer and subject, but I also enjoy trying to find the character hidden in inanimate objects.
In 2006 I was fortunate enough to have a photograph used on an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show ("Dreams Come True, with Emilio Estevez"), of which I am proud.
In 2011 acclaimed editorial illustrator Zina Saunders said, "I am a fan . . . your work is terrific!" I was pleasantly surprised and humbled.
The pictures here represent many different sides of my experience. I hope you enjoy them.
