His mastery at combining stylistic elements from different historical periods while maintaining an unwavering focus on clarity has produced a body work that is timeless and enduring. He has received accolades for illustration and typographic design and a singular ability to seamlessly combine the two.
From his earliest work, which was produced using templates, french curves and drafting tools, to a present day virtuosity in digital media, Pelavin has used a restrained and simplified vocabulary of geometric forms. An early interest in serigraphy cemented a love of rich, flat colors, while a reverence for themes of transportation and industry has filled his compositions with trains, planes, automobiles and dynamic cityscapes. The result is a body of work which is pictorial and iconic at the same time.
