Artist Statement Hello and welcome. My name is Troy Feener and I currently make my home in Calgary Alberta Canada with my wife Desiree and my two dogs (Van Gogh and Salvador).

After completing a Masters Degree in Microbiology/Ecology I spent time in Eastern Canada at Queen's University working for the National Cancer Institute. It was during this time that I began to experiment in photography as an alternative media to painting and drawing which had always been a passion of mine.

It was about the same time that I also began to travel outside of Canada, taking along my SLR, snapping happily while I discovered a wider world. Through these early experiences I was awakened to several life altering things:

1. I am extremely lucky to have been born in a country like Canada.
2. I have been given amazing opportunities in my life and I had been under-appreciative of those opportunities.
3. All people on this earth basically want the same thing...security. We in the West translate that into financial security and materialism, but the majority of the world express this simply as having enough food to eat and some sort of shelter from the elements.

These thoughts have undoubtedly had an impact on some of my photographs and the ideas presented through them to you the viewer. My ultimate hope is that my photos will stimulate others to venture out and discover a larger world with larger truths...not necessarily mine, but truths about their own lives and their role on our planet.
