Description I'm one of seven children. We loved to go sledding at night. It was calm and peaceful. This scene really happened during the day. I was distracted, and when I looked back, my friends had left without me. It was the first of many trains I would just miss by a few seconds in life! I was probably ten years old at the time.
Rosemary McGuirk, New Hampshire Member Since October 2009 Artist Statement "The American everyday way of life inspires me. Not the glitz nor the glamor, but the memories that bring us feelings of peace and happiness."
Rosemary McGuirk was born and raised in lower Westchester County, New York. She attended St. Joseph's Grammar School in Bronxville and School of the Holy Child in Rye. In 1980, she earned her B.A. in Art from the University of Richmond. She continued her studies of art at the College of New Rochelle, The School of Visual Arts, and the Art Student's League by night and worked at her father's Ford dealership and later at McCall's and Family Circle magazines by day.
The early experiences of her childhood in the suburbs, at her grandmother's in Chester, Vermont, and now raising her own family, are evident in the childlike and playful images that come to life in her unique and meticulous cut paper scenes.
