Description In the early 1800s, a rancher noticed a group of hardy curly haired horses living among the wild mustangs on his land. He caught them and bred them with his tame horses, forming the Curly breed. From the book, Harness Horses, Bucking Broncos & Pit Ponies: A History of Horse Breeds.
Shelley Ann Jackson & Jeff Crosby, Austin Member Since March 2008 Artist Statement We are husband & wife illustrators, working out of Austin, Texas. We both hold MFA degrees in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. These images are from our two collaborative picture books, "Little Lions, Bull Baiters & Hunting Hounds: A History of Dog Breeds," which won a non-fiction research grant from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and the gold medal for juvenile nonfiction in 2008 from ForeWord magazine, and "Harness Horses, Bucking Broncos & Pit Ponies: A History of Horse Breeds," published October 2011.
