Artist Statement Jonathan has explored his fascination with both art and medicine through the study and practice of each concentration. As a teenager, Jonathan was mentored in painting and sculpture by Ion Theodore while attending the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, New York. He continued to paint and sculpt into his adult life. Jonathan's early studies in art provided a basis upon which to build not only his skills as an artist, but importantly served in a complimentary way to enhance his competence and ability to observe, examine, diagnose and provide treatment to patients. Each field of study became mutually interdependent and has provided a means to improve upon the understanding of what is seen and being investigated.

Jonathan lives and works in northern New Jersey. He is fortunate to have a wife and three children for inspiration and love. Jonathan started painting with acrylics as a teen during the 1970s and continued working with acrylics and oils during his studies at the University of Rochester. He continues to enjoy experimenting with different styles, techniques and motifs. Recently he started using encaustics. This technique dates back thousands of years and is quite durable. His passion for art has continued long since completing his academic training. For Jonathan, art is a calling similar to that of medicine. It gives him a voice that he would otherwise not have to express himself. In this way it is restorative and timeless.

Jonathan is a board certified physician. He attended the University of Rochester and Columbia University and trained at The Sackler School of Medicine and The Mount Sinai Medical School.

Jonathan completed his Internal Medicine internship at Overlook Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons located in Summit, New Jersey. Subsequently, he trained in Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Mount Sinai in New York City.

Jonathan joined the faculty at the Mount Sinai Medical School and taught medical students, residents and fellows while also providing care to patients in the operating rooms and pain clinics.

Currently, Jonathan maintains a practice of aesthetic medicine in New Jersey and is involved in the research and development of new pharmaceutical agents, including oncology therapies.
