Artist Statement I developed my first roll of B&W film in 1952.  I was 7 years old, standing on a stool in the darkroom of my dad's photography studio in downtown Rockford, Illinois.  I'll never forget seeing those first "negatives" that were fixed on that roll of film....and I was hooked.
A lot has changed since 1952, but not my love of photography.  After retiring from my commercial/industrial photographic career, I decided to come west....that's when I heard about the vanishing herds of Wild Mustangs and  how they were being removed from our lands to make way for MORE....more cattle....more sheep....more oil and natural gas....more pipe lines.....
To me, the Wild Mustang is the last living testament to a time long past when there was a Wild West.  I struck up a conversation with a stranger in Deadwood, South Dakota awhile back.  Turned out, he was on holiday from Germany and had come to America to see the Wild West.  It is still a romantic idea shared by people around the world.  There is a spirit and a "feeling" that connects us to a time before fences…..and the Wild Mustang (celebrated in song and automobile) is a living symbol of that spirit and that heritage.
