Description Something's Coming is part of my Cow Town series. (The original is a 30' x 40' painted in acrylic.) The very first cow painting (Cow Trippin', a 16 ' x 20') was inspired by a friend's story and depicts three cows in a forest at night. To create the cows, I first made paper cuts, continually adjusting the angle of the head and playing with colors. To date, most of the cows are purple and yellow. When it came time to create the 30' x 40' Cow Town series, I eventually returned to the motif of 3 cows, with their eyes expectant as they are waiting for something. This painting was first displayed at Wet Salon and Gallery in Austin in 2007.
Julie Jalil, San Marcos, Texas Member Since August 2008 Artist Statement Julie Jalil is based in San Marcos, Texas (just outside Austin). She began painting in 2004. An eclectic artist, Jalil typically works in oils, acrylic, and/or cut paper. To date, her work has developed along 4 major lines. She began with a Miscellaneous line in which she learned technique by studying the work of modern masters. She then branched into three major lines of exploration.
Her “Dancing Through Life” series focuses on the human body in motion. Her “Women of the World” series offers a serious examination of women from across the globe, with an emphasis on Middle Eastern and African women. Her newest series “Cow Town” uses colorful cows to express the fun, whimsical side of life. After completing a couple of commissions, she will begin work on a “Queens of the Blues” series.
