Description This live figure study was done in a 2-hr studio session in a class under Marlin Adams, a fabulous artist & teacher. Most of this oil sketch was done with my fingers, then highlights were lifted with rags, dry brushes, Q-tips, orange stick...whatever worked!
Pat Burns, Forsyth, GA Member Since July 2008 Artist Statement Primarily a nature artist, Pat DeVane Burns draws from her intense love of all living things. She attended Governors' Honors at Wesleyan College, entered Berry College on a full-tuition art scholarship and has studied since then under Art Werger and Marlin Adams. "Schooling is great... however, my most stimulating experiences have been while painting with peer groups in the studio or plein air."
She enjoys painting on varied surfaces, often using metal, stone, wood or glass instead of canvas or hardboard. "Winsor-Newton acrylics are my choice for the many surfaces that I use because the rich colors adhere so well. Oils are my preference for portraits, although lately I've found myself using them more and more for canvas work of all subject matter."
Pat's realism has evolved into a looser, more intense statement of color and shapes that is "more interpretive...more expressive...more me".
Her work can be seen in Georgia at Macon Arts in Macon, Monroe County Arts in Forsyth and River Street Gallery in Savannah.
