Artist Statement Suzanne Rall-Smith is a self-taught artist. Born in 1958 in Bay Shore, New York, Suzanne took to art as soon as she was able to hold a crayon. Throughout her childhood, Suzanne developed an appreciation for her majestic surroundings. She would often sit in her room for hours with pencils and paper, or sit and create with paints and canvas. Years of artistic expression made it clear that Suzanne's life would be centered upon her passion for art. During high school, Suzanne attended Wilson Tech for Graphic Design. She was employed by Faichild Republic Aviation as an Illustrator. After the birth of her son, Justin, Suzanne attended Suffolk Community College majoring in Fine Arts. During this time, Suzanne developed a deep passion for art through creating large oil paintings with tropical themes. Suzanne transferred to Dowling College and received a Bachelors degree in Visual Art and Elementary Education. Suzanne worked as an art teacher at the Hicksville Public Schools in New York. Suzanne continued her education and in 2006 received a Masters degree from State University of New York Stony Brook in Liberal Studies. While vacationing at her home in Florida Suzanne developed a new form of artistic expression creating painted palm fronds. This new found material has brought Suzanne's artwork to a greater audience online. Suzanne's palm fronds have been featured on Newsday.com http://weblogs.newsday.com/features/home/cheap_thrills_blog/2008/01/do_not_post_diyer_suzanne_rall.html and can also be found at http://srallsmith.etsy.com
