Description Stone wine vats are quite common in Catalonia. However, it is less common to find them near the vineyards. The ones in the photograph are part of the vats of the Valls del Flequer (Flequers valleys). These wine vats were built of stone with ceramic tiles covering the walls inside to seal the liquid. This particular set was able to store about 36,000 liters of wine, about 9,000 liters in each one.The vats have small dry stone huts built in from of them, where farmers would seek haven from the weather, store their tools, and sometimes stay for the night.
Marc Garrido, Barcelona Member Since February 2009 Artist Statement When I was Young, after begging a lot, my parents bought me my first camera. I did a lot of photograph: at home, on holydays, playing with my friends… anytime was a good time to shoot. However, it was a relief for parents' economy that I left the camera almost forgotten.
With the arrival of digital cameras I get back to my hobby, but wasn't till I get my current job that I do start seriously with photography. My job requires me to travel far and wide, and of course I could not leave the camera at home.
All started with some Sydney photographs done by a partner. After seeing the results achieved with a good camera and a wide angle lens I couldn't resist to buy my first DSLR. Then came hours and hours reading about photography, more hours of practice, purchase of photographic equipment and back to the reading. So far I still have a terrible desire to continue learning and enjoying this wonderful art.
After some years behind the camera I think that I'm qualified to say that what really excites me is studio photography, especially still live compositions and always with a very personal standpoint.
