Artist Statement I was born in Minsk, Belarus in February of 1969. My first doodling experience happened when I was in kindergarten. I was overwhelmed by drawing battlefields swarmed by soldiers, planes and tanks for myself and other kids. That was a live action - figures were moving from one place to another, and I could barely catch up with requests to help keep so many battles going at the same time...
Teachers cussed at me all the time during my school years, because I just could not let go of the notebook at their lessons. They rightfully claimed that I was stealing attention of other students focusing on my sketching rather than a taught subject, but I couldn't stop.
It got even worse when my older brother started preparing for the Architectural School and doing lots of Academic work.
During the middle school years I started taking lessons of playing percussions, and spend 4 years in a musical school in parallel with my normal educational routine. When the time came to make a decision on whether I would play xylophone and drums for the rest of my life or do something else, something I was really good at, I decided to follow my brother's steps and, after successful competition, entered an Architectural School as well. It was the year of 1986. In one year I was drafted and spent 2 years in mandatory military services as a mobile infantry trooper. I was back to the University bench in 1989, the same year when USSR withdrew from Afghanistan and right in the midst of the Soviet's dissipation.
I was graduated from the Belorussian State Politechnic Academy in 1994 with a title of an Architect.
In 1996 I immigrated to the United States, and resume working in the Architectural field, progressing from a drafter, through a position of a Project Architect and a Project Manager.
I am still annoying my colleagues with my drawing habits... especially during corporate meetings - I guess I am possessed for life.
My favorite technique is a combination of colored pencils and ballpoint pens with involvement of some ink work.
