Artist Statement Born and raised in the Philippines, Patti Lorenzo-Encarnacion came to the US in 1991 to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. She graduated with a BFA in 1994 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduating, she dedicated her time to raising her children and running a household with her husband, John. However, during this time, she always found ways of using her creativity. She taught art to children both in the Philippines and the US. She also volunteers her time and talent to Filipino and other multi-cultural organizations doing graphic, set, and prop design. At home, she continues to sketch, paint, write, and is a cooking enthusiast.

In her Artists' Statement, she says:

"Not concentrating on just one medium has allowed me to explore and stretch my imagination to great lengths. I am a self-proclaimed conceptual artist and experiment mixing media and using different surfaces. I am influenced by many artists from different eras and different parts of the world, but I am most influenced by the Duchampian concept of "chance" and using found objects. My strong Graphic Design background [from three years of Advertising Design in the University of Santo Tomas doing everything by hand] is apparent in my bold, defined colors but I put things together based on the Jungian concept of the "collective unconscious"- perhaps from all the drastic changes and different life-changing occurrences in my life."
