Description The Union Church near Bowie Texas sits in an open prairie field. It's a simple white clapboard church of the type that artists (such as Edward Hopper) love because of the combination of simple shapes that produce powerful, simple, yet subtle shading. The roofline and and shadows of this church create a natural abstract painting. The original of this piece is an acrylic painting 14 inches square. Many glazes of paint were necessary to capture the subtle color depths in the shadows.
Kellam Brown, Plano, TX Member Since May 2007 Artist Statement For 40 years my profession has been software engineering and my avocation has been art. Now that is reversed. I began painting and "went pro" about 5 years ago. I've earned an AAA and am working on an MFA in illustration through the Academy of Art University in San Francisco (on-line). Since summer 2007 I've been teaching life drawing and pastel painting at the Art Institute in Dallas; I've found that I really enjoy teaching - at least in the college environment, and intend to make teaching my second career.
I participate in local and national art shows and competitions as well group and solo shows in the Dallas - Ft Worth area of Texas.
