Rita Whaley, Chicago Member Since May 2010 Artist Statement My vibrant and colorful paintings aim to uplift your spirits and inspire your imagination. I seek to show the deeper experiences of our shared humanity, and the richness of nature in the world around us.
Starting with random shapes and colors as a background, I open my mind to all possibilities. Different images emerge, take shape and suggest outlines and definition.
Dreams, my view of the world, spiritual experiences and intuitive feelings find their own place into my pieces. I enjoy the process and the surprise of letting the paintings evolve organically.
In the last few years the symptoms of a long-time disability made it impossible for me to stand up and work at an easel to paint. Fortunately, I found a new medium for my creative expression:
“Art with a Digital Brush” I use a stylus like a brush on a graphics tablet, plus the keyboard to select colors and different media, while watching the computer screen for results. This allows me to mix paint digitally, use different brush strokes, and create the illusion of texture, oil paints, acrylics, water colors, pastels and more. My finished images are then printed on canvas in a variety of sizes.
It is important to know that I never use outside images or graphic manipulation of art that is not my own. My work is the REAL THING, with the extra benefit of being able to print limited editions of each painting.
Born and raised in Germany, I traveled the world, lived with my husband Bob in many different places and have now landed in Chicago. Here I reconnected with my best friend in life - my sister Tracy, who is an exceptional photographer. Together we have grown and learned to be successful working artists. None of this would be possible without my husband Bob, who does all the art fair setup, computer work and fixing the things we artists need to follow our muse.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you come back from time to time to see my new work
