Description 'The Alcazaba, unjustly forgotten by all those who after the Christian conquest wrote in dazzling terms about the Nasrid palaces, is the solitary forbear of an entire palatine city which would later come to be known as Madinat al-Hamra (The citadel of the Alhambra). It is referred to in the accounts of the civil wars in the IX century and battles against the invading Almoravids and Almohads by various different names such as the fortress of Elvira or Granada castle until, from the XIII century onwards, the name qa 'lat al-hamra (the red castle) becomes fixed and it is by this name that we know it today.'I really liked this in color, but I think I chose the black and white conversion to reflect something akin to longevity....I can't believe this fortress has been around since the 9th century!
