Artist Statement I've lived in California most of my life and I've watched trains for as long as I can remember. There are two rail lines near the house where I grew up, the old Southern Pacific line (now Union Pacific) through downtown Martinez and the Santa Fe (now BNSF) that goes over the trestle just south of the main part of town. I have spent many hours in both places waiting for and photographing trains.

There is also a great deal of natural beauty in the area. The many fruit trees add a splash of color when they bloom in the spring. Throughout the year the long grass on the hills also changes hue from bright intense green in the winter and spring to bleached yellow in the summer to the color of old parchment as fall comes.
