Description With each passing day time takes its toll on every object in life. With a seashell the original functions of the shell are left in the past giving way to newer possibilities. Function gives way to form not only inner, but exterior as well. The idea of a home changes from one creature to another. With the newer representation of the inhabitant, layers of new life form and the shell changes and grows accordingly. In time tides and currents bring the shell to new waters, and new destinations. The seas behind the shell are not forgotten; with time eroding the shells walls, new cracks and gaps leave little passages. Within these new shapes are hidden treasures from the shells journey across the new waters. Particles of sand, salt, drift wood, other shells and pebbles make homes in the passing shells new shapes and leave their original locations. The wonder is not in loosing the primal function, but to experience and appreciate what has become of the form. The ornate design once displayed has become a passage way into its lifes journey. The focus of this project is to highlight the change that has occurred to the shell over time. The new nooks and crannies that shelter particles from distant waters, the addition and subsequently subtraction of layers, the transformation of what the shell has become in texture and color as well as the focus of the elongated journey through time that has brought the shell to your feet, to your hand, to your eye and finally your veneration.
