Artist Statement All proceeds from ImageKind go to Alex's son Jonathan who was fostered, then adopted in 2012. Husband and father Alex Goldenberg did not die from cancer, he lived it; painting prolifically throughout illness. After his diagnosis in May 2014, Alex took to his studio to do what he loved most - create. Painting was a vital force for Alex, it made "a life worth living". "Alex's story is extraordinary" said his wife Donna Panarello, "He truly owned being an artist and followed his dream to paint bigger, bolder, brighter. And he did it because he had cancer, he used cancer as a turning point to create a life he loved." Alex found strength and endurance after over a year of chemo, transporting his most acclaimed piece "Bad Girl" a 7 ft x 4 ft painting on wooden panel, 1600 miles by car in torrential rain, only stopping to rest and sleep for a few hours, on his way to Grand Rapids,MI where the work was on display at ArtPrize. The painting "Bad Girl" outlines his healing journey. Read the painting from the top left corner to the bottom in columns. The 1st column is learning his diagnosis, the middle tells the complimentary practices and some humor, the last, he's still alive but there are side effects to chemo, he questions surgery, life, death..
