John Fraissinet, New York City
Member Since December 2007
Artist Statement Living and working in the New York area allows John to observe the city from an insider's perspective with his camera always at hand. He now focuses on street photography but previously spent a good deal of time as a travel photographer, journeying through more than 40 US states and 18 European countries (including more than 10,000 miles on bicycle)..

John first started with photography when he received an enlarger for his high school graduation present, setting up a makeshift darkroom in his basement. His interest in sports started providing subjects... local baseball, the NY City Marathon and the Olympics.

Then, a bicycle trip across the US led to an interest in touring and the photographic opportunities of the road. Follow-up trips on two wheels took him through the southern US states and then Europe. He has biked over the Appalachian, Rocky, and Apennines mountains, as well as the Alps. And, he has followed the Danube, Missouri, Columbia, Seine and Po rivers with his camera.

Most recently he has been focusing on collages of photos with a common theme or location, many of them being New York City landmarks. There are classic views but also John is interested in those around... street vendors, policemen, tourists.

John enjoys all feedback and in particular appreciates comments about individual shots. And, read his street photography blog at http://www.streetobservations.com.
