Artist Statement Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains shield the studio where I create oil paintings. I turn up my favorite music and venture into other worlds. Layers, ideas and design are contemplated. What would please me in my home? What is next on this painting?

Combining my favorite music and thought, my painting brews. First, I stretch canvas, smear gesso with my bare hands, then reach for the sketch book, and my palette. I research, and pull tubes of paint, choosing just the right colors. Doodling on my canvas with graphite. I love it all - the smell, the feel, the dance, and connection.

I am a self-taught artist and have painted for over 20 years, guided by life’s influences and growing up with a very creative family. The time I spend and the paintings that result expand every year with my own growth. Working in solitude is the gift that painting gives me. I become my own boss.

I don’t analyze or categorize my work. Surrealism, abstract, dark pop, modern art, masters of the past all influence me. When I look at a painting I want to see brush strokes and lines of paint, great color combinations and a comfort level with the subject matter. Realism or perfection is not of interest; I want accidents and out of the blue ideas.

I bleed through your mind and out your fingers, out the brush and kiss the canvas. When you set the mood I arrive. I want your attention. Sending complex-puzzle thought for you to unravel, I’m forever yours.
