Artist Statement Charles Ferrell is a detailed pencil artist. Charles' artistic talents were evident from childhood and augmented through art training at Cranbrook School (Bloomfield Hills, MI), Amherst College (Amherst, MA) and University of Michigan (Dearborn, MI).

Charles uses off-white archival 90-100 pound 18x24 and 19x24 Strathmore quality paper, Faber Castell 9000 Series and Pitt Pure Graphite Pencils, Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Utrecht Workable Fixative and non-abrasive erasers.

His preparation includes raja yoga meditation and filling his work environment with jazz, incense, and natural lighting.

Charles' techniques involves rapid and random layering strokes of broad graphite sticks and razor sharp F, 2H, 5H, 2B-5B, and 7B pencils to create details and gradients of values balanced with the appropriate use of white space.

Charles often states that his artistic goal is, "...to infuse my drawings with life-energy and transferable emotion".
