Description Molten pahoehoe lava spilling down the side of Mount Kilauea.Molten basalt is only 2000F (~1100C) or so; it's so warm that I had to keep turning away to let my face cool down whilst I photographed it. I also melted the soles of my shoes!This lava forms part of the Kalapana Lava Flow on the tropical island of Hawai'i.
