Gonzague Octaville, Paris
Member Since September 2013
Artist Statement Born in 1979 in Montmartre, the son of a painter, Octaville has wandered around the famous hill overlooking Paris since his childhood. The perceptive eye of the young man follows in the footsteps of his mother’s strides along the cobblestoned Place du Tertre, also closely observing other artists who capture, through brush or charcoal, the uniqueness and mystery of the Parisian flaneur amid the multitude.
Thanks to the ideas fostered by these foundational encounters, Octaville plodded on his own creative process, advancing step by step his own technique in various art studios, before participating in the cutting-edge breeding grounds of the Parisian avant-garde, such as the “Squat des Falaises” (Cliff art squat). Regularly on display at the Parisian gallery “L’art de rien” (“art of nothing”), where French singer Olivia Ruiz discovered them, Octaville’s paintings have recently been featured at the “Observatoire” of the BHV (Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville) during the exhibition “Les Songes Funambules” (Thightrope dreams), and more recently at the Grand Palais for the exhibition “Art en Capitale”.
His own permanent gallery and studio are now located on the shore of Créteil Lake.
