The Modern Art style is a broad genre that includes an extensive list of subgenres and categories that help make up what is typically thought of as modern art. Van Gogh used distinctive swirling brushstrokes that held to the Impressionist form of vibrant colors and thick applications of paint. Though Picasso can be classified under a few different subgenres, he is best understood through the category of cubism, which is an art form that abandoned the direct for the universal representation of form.

The Modern Art style is a complex art form that contains many unique and subtle differences among the varied genres. Though they all fit into an overarching understanding of displaying images in less than exact, realistic ways, there are both slight, and obvious differences between them.
