Andrew Bruce, Droylsden
Member Since June 2010
Artist Statement After being born at a very early age, Andrew was abandoned on a hillside by his loving parents (a wholly sensible act on their parts). Andrew was brought up by a family of badgers in a sett just outside Portsmouth. Here he was taught philosophy, biology and the best time to forage for worms. After a brief spell in prison, for attempting to steal a hosepipe (in the understandable, but mistaken, belief that it was the great green worm king which would give immortality to any badger that caught and ate it) Andrew was rehabilitated into human society and got a job inside one of London Underground's ticket machines. Sadly, soon afterwards, his entire badger family was gassed when it was discovered that they were carrying a previously unknown strain of yersinia pestis. In his grief over this terrible loss, Andrew decided that there must be more to life than pulling a yellow ticket into one hole and pushing it out of another and broke free of his job at Piccadilly Circus, wrapped up his belongings in a (fairly) clean red handkerchief and set off to Manchester to seek his fortune. After a further twenty years of adventures, too unbelievable to write down here, Andrew finally made it to the fabled city of rain and dog-poo covered pavements (sidewalks). It was whilst playing a game of dodge-the-dog-dobby that he first saw Claire. Their eyes met, and heedless of the risks to their bare feet (you see they were hardcore players) they ran to each other with the grace of rhinos in the rutting season. And the rest, you might say, is history. Andrew was allowed to play with Claire's nice camera and they lived happily ever after.
