Artist Statement Taking photographs captivate me. I really enjoy it. I take photos of what ever catch my eyes and usually what catches my eyes are some patterns in the surroundings.

I´m a ceramic artist and a teacher with a great enthusiasm in photography. I graduated in the Iceland University of Education in 1988 and in art and design from Iceland Academy of Arts 2001.

Beside running my workshop, where I design and make my own art and craft, I teach woodcarving to elderly people.

Clay is my main media but I use all kind of other material such as wood, paper, metal, leather, plastic, photos. Just everything I can use and fits my work.

Nature is my main source. Often I´m just amazed over something I see in nature. A light, leaf, stone, cloud or just what catch my attention. Actually, everything can be a source for my work since it is the life I live that are the background for the art I make. Life is nothing but creation. What ever I do is created in my mind, whether I make some piece of art or do the dishes.

Lately I have mostly been making jewelery and taking photos.

You can see some of my other work on my homepage: www.kvalka.net, I also have more photos on Flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/kvalka. If you see some photos there that is not here, and you would like to buy, just contact me. If you want to return to my Imagekind profile later, just save this link: http://kvalka.imagekind.com/
