Description The sun sets on Pladda Island, with Ailsa Craig in the far background. The island of Pladda (or Pladaigh) is small, flat, teardrop-shaped island, less than a kilometre in length and rises to just 27 metres (ninety feet) above sea level. Unusually for such a small island it has its own source of fresh water. The lighthouse dates from 1790 and was designed by Thomas Smith. It was the first light on the Clyde to be commissioned by the Commissioners of the Northern Lights and was automated in 1990.
Stephen Maxwell, Bangor, County Down Member Since August 2008 Artist Statement I returned to photography and the digital age in the early 2000s after a break of about 18 years. I enjoy the immediacy of digital photography and I am not averse to post production work on an image. I enjoy walking and travelling and have my camera with me a s a consequence of these activities. Photography is a means of relaxation and I enjoy it for itself. I am glad that others enjoy, comment upon and even purchase my work.
