Artist Statement Utilizing abstract art to magnify a scientific concept may seem naïve or unreasonable, but art is the original mouthpiece for concepts and ideas; art and science are not mutually exclusive. As a painter I practice weaving into my art reflections of American society’s immediate concerns: nature, spirituality, healing the wounds of our past and facing where our society is headed. I am especially concerned with nature and spirituality; the connection between the two appears overlooked or, worse yet, misinterpreted. Some of my inspiration comes from the endless sources of art history iconography and its creators. More inspiration comes from reading philosophical works and current affairs which stir up my motivation to bring such concepts into visual existence. The time that is spent at the easel is productive physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. My voice speaks with paint and I invite you to speak with me through my art. In May of 2006 I received my bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities with focused instruction in art and world religions.
