Description Ah, Rick James! What can I say? He performed on May 5, 2002 at the Music Midtown Festival. It was a Sunday afternoon and a family crowd. Forgive me here but I'm quoting Rick James. He looked out with an intense look and said, 'I see all you out there and you think you're bad, but there's only one bad motherf#@*er here today and that's my black ass'. At that point, he turned around, lifted his shirt and smacked himself on the butt in a taunting way. He then proceeded to play about an hour longer than scheduled. Amanda and I sat underneath the back of the stage and had a late lunch while watching the crew going crazy trying to get Rick James offstage so they could get back on schedule. They didn't. They just cut the time for the next several acts. Rick won...at least for another couple of years. I wish I'd gotten a chance to see him again since I only saw the beginning and end of this performance. 'Cocaine's a hell of a drug.'
