Description I've always been fascinated with mythical creatures, and the Phoenix in particular is very interesting to me. Largely because of the inspiring story behind the mythical bird.Though often associated with Greek mythology, the Phoenix originated in ancient Egyptian culture. The Phoenix exists by different names in many cultures. The Native Americans called it the Thunderbird, Greek - Phoenix, Persian - Simurgh, Chinese - Feng Huang, Russian - Zhar Ptitsa, and Egyptian - Benu or Bennu. The names for the legendary bird may have changed from one culture to another, but the story remains almost the same - After living for several centuries in the Arabian desert, it would be consumed by fire and rise from its own ashes, with this cycle repeating every 500 years. In Egyptian lore the Benu was often associated with the Sun, immortality, and rebirth.
