I was raised in a house filled with my mother's artwork. I still remember fondly the watercolor she did of a mouse in a pink tutu that hung above my dresser until junior high. And I remember sitting next to her desk as she sketched, asking if I could watch, and eventually if she could teach me. I remember her giving me and my friend private lessons in the living room in junior high. And I remember when we finally set up twin easels in her studio, and spent a few afternoons painting together.
My training is not traditional. I did take extra art classes in high school, and I spent a week at a Northern Illinois University art camp every summer for 6 years. Since then, however, my training in art has been purely trial and error. While some of my past work is in oil, due to space constrictions all of my current work is in acrylic. As far as subject matter is concerned, I tend to paint things I want to see as opposed to those I do. Or I try to capture an emotion I want to express or long to feel.
My degree is in theatre from Loyola University-Chicago. You can check out some of my acting work at www.kristenschrader.com
