Description The upstairs to the old Thom McAn building in downtown Asbury Park. In the 1960's, the shoe store owners let a group of aspiring teen-age musician's use the loft to have all-night jam sessions. The sweaty, storage area became quite popular as a teen-age hangout on weekend's & in the summertime...and soon was coined 'The Upscale Club.' In the summer they would jam all night and sleep all day. One of the musician's would go on to become quite successful...Bruce Springsteen. It's little known that the Boss got his start playing in the stuffy upstairs of a shoe store.
