Artist Statement I live in South Africa and have been taking photos for the past 2 years or so. My work in the Film Industry took me to many places where not having a camera handy would be a sin, so I bought myself a Canon PowerShot A610 and started shooting.
The thing that draws me to photography is how you capture a moment in time, it's there forever, sometimes it's beautiful, sometimes horrifying, sometimes a small piece of serenity, but always beautiful, connected in some small way. For me it's about capturing that moment and presenting it to the viewer, who may look at something familiar and see a new dimension to it, perhaps even learn something about themselves. All art, in my opinion, is not about the medium or the subject, but about the balance between intention and perception.
My girlfriend works with porcelain, and together we work on (as yet unpublished) graphic novels and stop- animations, so I'm never far from the visual side of things.
The next step for me is get a decent SLR and keep shooting!
