fruits of the flesh
i wish someone would look at me the way i'm looking at this fruit admiring its rich glistening skin promising succulence with all the delights of sweet buttery flesh beneath
but of course this fruit is fresh carefully beautifully presented to best advantage
in a world where staging is everything even were i smooth glistening fresh instead of mottled withered sere promising nothing but the dry wisdom of experience and the occasional flash of sour humor i'd still be lounging louche and loose in the jumble aisle with the rest of the odd whatnots
and truthfully that's exactly where i feel most comfortable at my age hope doesn't spring eternal or otherwise but a little leaks through once in awhile and you never know what odd whatnots will get up to all mixed in as they are in the leftover stew of life
and besides often the apple of someone's eye ends up peeled cored chopped in a pie eaten digested flushed goodbye ~ copyright 2017 RC deWinter
