Robert Scott Chiarella, Toronto Member Since April 2007 Artist Statement My work falls somewhere between classical and representational realism - with a touch of romanticism thrown in. I have a love for the visible and the sensory worlds and I strive to depict the beauty both in people and in everyday subjects, without idealization. Through my observations and awareness, I try to move past a static photographic interpretation and bring an energy and completeness to my compositions with a sense of order, beauty, and harmony.
My love of portraiture carries over into another one of my favorite subjects - old Hollywood.
It wasn't just the films themselves that hooked me, I've always been fascinated by the behind-the-scenes situations surrounding the filming. In a way it's like lifting a veil and getting a better look at the person behind the persona.
My Silver Screen series is both a study and a celebration of some of my favorite 20th Century films and icons.
