Current Gallery: Grief ( piece)
Since losing my younger brother to suicide two years ago, I have been creating a body of work titled, Portraits of Grief. Believing that grief encompasses an infinite array of emotions, I have chosen to include images that range from softly peaceful, to weathered and pained. Combining my education in Psychology with a love for the visual arts, I have captured moments of powerful emotion through color and brush stroke in a style that some have described as ‘contemporary realism.’ I often find myself holding in strong emotions and reactions; not allowing them to be free. These emotions do not cease to exist, but irritate and overwhelm my mind. By portraying them through art, I have found a way to express and release that pain. In the latest, Hummingbird, series, I am exploring acceptance in grief. By reflecting myself through oil and canvas, I have found a visual pathway to healing.
