Artist Statement Born and raised in New York City, Charlie Sands was surrounded by artistic and cultural influences. Having been in the center of the Jazz and Bebop world at the age of 5, he was wowed by the whole scene. Later on, his talent grew in the visual arts and took interest in the New York street art scene.

With many words of encouragement from those on the scene such as Keith Herring and others, Charlie took to the street, painting and recording daily life of everyday people of New York.

After his short stay at the School Of Visual Arts, found the greatest instruction he can learn from was life and the people he met along the way. Thus began his 10 year travel of the United States and her commonwelths with an occasion visit to Mexico and Canada.

Today he lives in New York with his wife and 2 children.
