Artist Statement I come from a family of Artists, Musicians, and Scholars. My earliest memories include music lessons of all types, regular trips to art museums, and making artistic creations with my mother. I have always felt an inner artistic drive and have spent much of my life looking for a means through which to express it. Watching my mother work on her beautiful paintings and seeing the ease with which she could quickly sketch a flower or plant was inspiring, but try as I might I was never able to paint or draw to my satisfaction.

I became interested in photography at a young age, but at the time it never occurred to me that photography could be my artistic outlet. In fact, I'm not sure I even realized photography was an art form! Since I was heading down a different career path, I never bothered to purchase a good camera, and so my interest almost disappeared, until...................I had a daughter! Then everything changed. Taking pictures of her was fuel enough for the artistic fire to return.

I call myself an Artist rather than a Photographer mainly because I have no formal training and I do not do studio work, weddings, or portrait photography. Producing a truly beautiful photograph with great composition, color, light, angle, and etcetera, without the need for fancy photoshop tricks and fixes, requires an artistic eye. I am in awe of what some photographers are able to produce through digital manipulation, but with the exception of High-Dynamic Range images, I currently have little interest in digital editing.

Good, old-fashioned, straightforward photography. This is my current focus. As you browse my galleries, most of the images you will see have been produced with absolutely zero editing. Almost all were taken using only natural light. A small handful have been cropped, one was color-saturated, and not one photo was taken with anything other than a basic 35 mm lens. As I like to say, "The shot's the shot, like it or not!" Enjoy.
