Artist Statement
La Jolla artist David Rearwin has been engaged in photography for over forty years. During this period he also studied art history, drawing, sumi-e, Asian calligraphy and plastic arts in the U.S. and abroad. With the advent of digital imagery and processing, he progressed to a merger of studio art and photography. Having grown up on the beach, living and surfing in California, Brazil and Hawaii since the 1950s, he is drawn to the coast, the sea, and surf art in all its forms, whether surfers and bodysurfers riding waves or the power and majesty of the waves themselves. He has a lifelong love affair with La Jolla, as shown in his images of the La Jolla coastline, village and surroundings.
